The Alabama Department of Transportation said today they are planning to close a bridge on U.S. Highway 43 just south of Russellville on Tuesday. The bridge crosses Cedar Creek just south of town and must be closed so crews can perform maintenance on the structure. The closure is scheduled to begin at 6:00 am Tuesday, May 19th.
The southbound lanes of Highway 43 will be closed at the bridge, and traffic will be diverted to one lane of the northbound side. Crews were out this week making emergency repairs to the roadway deck after a hole opened up in the concrete, installing a temporary metal plate so traffic could pass. Now they will make more thorough repairs to the deck.
ALDOT says the bridge was built in 1955 and is slated for complete replacement next year.
