A U.S. Air Force plane crashed today in Lamar County, following what the Air Force calls a “mishap” in the air. Both occupants of the plane safely ejected prior to the crash and parachuted to safety. Officials say the two pilots suffered some minor injuries and were transported for medical treatment.
The aircraft was a T-38C Talon II training jet that did not carry weapons. The crash site is located in a rural area, and no ground injuries have been reported. Air Force officials are opening an investigation into the incident.
Emergency management personnel from Fayette County assisted Lamar County at the crash site.
