The Winston County Commission will receive a $900,000 Federal grant to reopen County Road 54 at Quarter Creek. U.S. Senator Katie Britt said in a statement today that the funds are being made available through the Fiscal Year 26 Homeland Security Appropriations Act. The project will be to replace the culverts that were destroyed in a flood four years ago, forcing the closure of County Road 54 since that time.
Senator Britt said “Alabamians know strong infrastructure is the foundation for strong communities. That’s why I’m proud to have secured $900,000 in this appropriations bill for the Winston County Commission. This funding goes beyond just upgrading a critical drainage structure—it will help emergency services respond more rapidly when every second counts. I look forward to seeing how this commonsense investment results in a stronger and more resilient Winston County community.”
Winston County Commission Chairman David Cummings responded to the news, saying “On behalf of the citizens and the Commission, I would like to thank Senator Britt and her dedicated staff in securing Homeland Security Appropriations Funding for this critical project for our County. If Senator Britt had not gotten involved, this project would have never happened due to the County’s limited resources. Thanks again for your support and commitment to the citizens of Winston County.”
