Shavelia Lee Bates, age 52 of Haleyville, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.
She was born September 28, 1972 to Donald Bates and Rosa Lee Venable. Shavelia always had a “zest” for life! She was fun loving, outgoing, and known to be pretty “stubborn”. Shavelia was always on the go and looking for her next adventure.
Family will receive friends Friday, August 1, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Shavelia was survived by her daughters, Megan Bates and Robin Brooke (Charles Hayden) Milligan; grandchildren, Joshlynn Emily Rose Ergle, Dixie Anne Faith Ergle, Chloe Chrisha Rain Ergle; brothers, Donald Shane (Candace Richardson) Bates and Bill Arp (Savanna) Bates; sister, Ashley Bates; special nieces, Skylar Whitney Bates and Annabelle Dickard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Donald Bates and Rosa Lee Venable; and granddaughter, Brookelynn Lilly May McGough.
