Scot Wayne Simmons, age 52, of Arley, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at Baptist Health in Jasper.
Scot was born on July 28, 1973, to Cary Wayne and Joni Marie Simmons. He had a lifelong love for building and working on cars and was the kind of man who could fix just about anything. He also found peace in the outdoors and especially loved fishing, where he could slow down and enjoy life in his own way. In his downtime, Scot enjoyed shooting pool, where his competitive spirit and love for good company shined through.
Scot was a man with a tough exterior and a genuinely soft heart. While he sometimes had a hard time expressing his feelings, those closest to him always knew how deeply he cared. Known for his bright smile and larger-than-life personality, Scot was usually the loudest guy in the room—always telling stories, acting them out, and keeping everyone laughing. His humor, energy, and unmistakable presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Scot is survived by his daughter, Katelyn (Austin) Pearson; son, Caleb (Kanesha Flanagan) Simmons; brother, B. J. (Jessica) Simmons; nephew, Braylon Simmons; niece, Berkley Simmons; and uncle, Gary (Penny) Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cary Wayne Simmons; mother, Joni Marie Simmons; paternal grandmother, Virginia Smith Simmons; maternal grandfather, James Alan (Jim) Mayer; and maternal grandmother, Miriam Mayer.
A gathering of friends will be held Wednesday, January 28, at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, Alabama, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., where the memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Scot will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, and the way he filled a room with life.
He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to be shared, retold, and treasured by those who loved him. Though he may be gone, the sound of his laughter and the warmth of his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
