Mervene Cleo Currie, age 98 of Addison, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 at The Folsom Center in Cullman, Alabama.
She was born May 27, 1927 to William and Della Elam in Winston County. She was the wife of Verbon W.P Currie for over 50 years and the loving mother of her only son, Ray Elam Currie, who resides in Arizona. Mervene is grandmother to Sean, Ryan Curie and Christina Chase. Great Grandmother to 8 and a great great grandmother to 4. All whom reside in the Phoenix, Arizona vicinity. In addition, she has been a much-loved mother-in-law to Florence Currie for almost 50 years.
She has been so very loved by all and such a joy to all who knew and loved her so! As she and Vernon chose to retire back to Alabama, which they always considered their home state (having lived in Phoenix, Arizona and Indianapolis, Indiana) she has been carefully cared for by her niece, Sharon Ward and her late sister, Allene Privett.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 01, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Nesmith Community, where the service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery. Brother Steton Hayes and Brother Junior Garmen will officiate.
Mervene is survived by her son, Ray (Florence) Currie; grandsons, Sean (Elizabeth) Currie and Ryan (Jennifer) Currie; great grandchildren, Matthew Currie, Nathan Currie, Jacob Currie, Aleksandra Currie, Dustin Currie, Savannah Currie and Dillon Currie; great great grandchildren, Emery Currie, Juno Currie, Silas Currie and Jameson Currie; one special niece, Sharon Ward; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Verbon W. Currie; parents, William and Della Currie; brothers, Jack Elam, Ormond Elam and Hugo Elam; sister, Allene Privett; special nephews, Peter Dwight Ward and Kerry Privett.
