The Following Obituary Was Written by The Family of Larry Umphrey:
Larry L. Umphrey, age 81 of Addison, Alabama, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born August 05, 1943 to Howard and IV Umphrey.
Visitation will be Friday, May 30 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where a service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Nesmith. Brian Hawkins will officiate.
Larry was a member of the Church of Christ. He graduated from Addison High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. Larry is an Addison Sports Hall of Fame inductee. Later he enlisted in the Army where he was a paratrooper. Larry raised chickens and cows while also working at 3M where he retired after 35 years. He loved to fish and hunt, and he loved working with his cows. He was a big fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and The Atlanta Braves.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Umphrey: daughters, Renae (Robbie) Kilpatrick and Tracey Bryan; grandchildren, Wes (Patricia) Bryan, Amy (James) Dickey, Hayden (Lacey) Kilpatrick and Jake (Hailey) Bryan; great grandchildren, James Kilpatrick, Layla Harris, Willow Kilpatrick, Ava Perry, Emma McCay, Peyton Bryan, Bella Jacobs, Jaxon Bryan, Jonathan Dickey, Avary Dickey, Evelin Kilpatrick, Benjamin Dickey, Triton Bryan and Myah Bryan; sister, Freda Burgess; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Howard and IV Umphrey, brothers Carl Umphrey and T.C. Umphrey.
