Lawrence County EMA is currently on scene of a large woods fire on County Road 196 in the Bankhead National Forest near the Speake community.
Fire departments from Lawrence and Winston counties are actively working the incident. Additional resources from the Alabama Forestry Commission and the U.S. Forest Service are en route with wildland crews and dozers.
The fire is currently estimated at approximately 300 acres.
