John was a 1996 graduate of Russellville High School and worked at Franklin Homes for the last 26 years. If you knew John Paul Johnson, you know what type of person he was, selfless, kind, and funny. He was always a caregiver for everyone and had a true servant’s heart. He loved to read, was great at art, loved working in his vegetable gardens, collected knives, and became a great cook. He preferred walking to riding in cars and was often seen walking to where he wanted to go.
John always had an old soul nature and was really a good person who never had anything bad to say about anyone. He enjoyed his time with his two best friends, Ruger and Winchester. Even in his last few weeks, he was appreciative of his family, who were devoted to his care and his comfort.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his sisters Laura Johnson Lowery (Corey), Dionna Johnson Tate (Chris), nieces, Mia Gann, Makayla Gann (fiancé, Zack Gipson), Madelynn Tate, Kanauriea Whitson, Hannah Tate, Gabby Mahaffey (Troy), Alexandria Tate Graves (Jacob), great-nephews, Walker Baker, Wendell Lane Gann. Kolton Gipson, Kason Gipson; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Lane & Phillis (King) Johnson; infant sister, Elizabeth Lynn Frost; grandparents, Carrie Hand Johnson and Sarah Nell King.
The visitation will be 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Spry Memorial Chapel. Following the time of visitation, he will be buried at Phil Campbell City Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Corey Lowery, Chris Tate, Zack Gipson, John Crotts, Dale Wright, and Wayne Jackson. The honorary pallbearers will be John’s great-nephews.
