The Haleyville Area Garden Club held its first meeting this evening, with 15 founding members present. The nonprofit organization is being formed to help beautify the city, with initial projects being the maintenance of planters on 20th Street and landscaping around the welcome to Haleyville signs.
The group will work on plants for the 12 planters downtown, and will also look at adding hanging plants and lighting to enhance the look of the main street. The goal is to get the initial projects in place prior to the annual 9-1-1 Festival in June, when thousands of people visit Haleyville.
Partnerships were discussed with other organizations, such as reaching out to 4-H Club members and Scouts who are looking for volunteer opportunities.
The next scheduled meeting to formalize the nonprofit will be at 6pm on Thursday, April 9th at Haleyville City Hall, and you are encouraged to attend.
