The Haleyville City Council met for their regular meeting tonight, with council member Julie “Boo” Brooks absent.
The council approved the minutes of its last meeting, with council member Cade Lewis abstaining due to his absence in that meeting.
The council approved the purchase of five new sets of turnout gear for the Haleyville Fire Department in the amount of $23,764.00 and approved performing maintenance on the city’s fire trucks. In addition, the council approved the purchase of shirts for the fire department.
The council also approved a project to replace windows in the Haleyville Public Library to improve energy efficiency and sound control.
The council then passed a resolution to apply for a community funding grant to fund the purchase of a downtown building adjacent to the Heart of Haleyville Park. If the grant is approved, funding would be released next year. The complete text of the resolution is included below.
In closing, council member Brian Berry announced upcoming events in the Haleyville Hometown Summer Series in the Heart of Haleyville Park downtown. Those include an Elvis tribute, Independence Day fireworks show, Bingo Night, and an Alabama band tribute concert.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR CONGRESSMAN ROBERT ADERHOLT FY2027 COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING FOR THE ACQUISITION AND RENOVATION OF PROPERTY ADJACENT TO THE HEART OF HALEYVILLE POCKET PARK FOR USE AS A WELCOME CENTER, HOSPITALITY ROOM, AND PUBLIC RESTROOM FACILITY
WHEREAS, the City of Haleyville owns and operates the Heart of Haleyville Pocket Park as a public gathering space for community events, festivals, concerts, and tourism-related activities; and
WHEREAS, the continued growth of events and visitation to the Heart of Haleyville Pocket Park has created a need for permanent restroom facilities, a welcome center, and a hospitality space to better serve residents, visitors, vendors, and performers; and
WHEREAS, property located adjacent to the Heart of Haleyville Pocket Park has been identified as suitable for acquisition and renovation to accommodate such facilities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Haleyville desires to apply for funding through the Robert Aderholt Community Grant Program to assist with the purchase and renovation of said property; and
WHEREAS, the proposed project will enhance downtown revitalization efforts, promote tourism, support local economic development, and improve public infrastructure for community events; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that applying for these grant funds is in the best interest of the citizens of Haleyville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, Alabama, as follows:
The City hereby authorizes submission of an application for Robert Aderholt FY2027 Community Project Grant funds for the purpose of acquiring and renovating property adjacent to the Heart of Haleyville Pocket Park to be used as a Welcome Center, Hospitality Room, and Public Restroom Facility.
The Mayor is hereby authorized to execute all documents necessary for submission of the grant application and to act as the authorized representative of the City in all matters related to the grant.
Upon award of funds, the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to take all actions necessary to accept the grant and to proceed with the acquisition and renovation in accordance with applicable laws and grant requirements.
The City agrees to provide any required matching funds of 20%, in-kind contributions, or additional funding necessary to complete the project, subject to Council approval.
