The Haleyville City Council held their regular meeting at 5:30 pm on June 2 with all members present. The council approved four resolutions, one for repairs to the tennis courts at the Neighborhood Facilities Building, two for drainage projects, and one for erosion control at the ball fields. These resolutions are included below.
All resolutions passed unanimously with the exception of 25-18 concerning the drainage project in Hill Top Subdivision, on which Councilman Drew Thrasher abstained.
Upon completion of the regular agenda, Mayor Ken Sunseri asked for comments from council members and the public. Dr. Ray Boshell invited everyone to the Haleyville 9-1-1 Festival this Friday and Saturday.
Brian Berry announced the Haleyville Hometown Summer events that will take place in the Heart of Haleyville Park. The first event of the series will be next Saturday, June 14th from 9am to 3pm, and will be Farmers Market Day featuring fresh and canned produce, baked goods, and arts and crafts.
Blue Russell congratulated the Haleyville High School golf team on their fourth straight state championship.
The next council meeting will be Monday, June 16 at 5:30 pm.

RESOLUTION #2025-17
WHEREAS the four tennis courts located at Haleyville’s Neighborhood Facilities Building have developed cracks in latitudinal and longitudinal directions to the extent that the Park and Recreation Department has received complaints. It is expected that, without repair, surface water from rain runoff will cause the court surface to further deteriorate.
WHEREAS City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., reviewed the approximate 1,222 linear feet of cracks that have developed in the four tennis courts at the Neighborhood Facilities Building and recommended that they be filled with TCS Acrylic Pourable Crack Filler.
WHEREAS Precision Concrete and Construction LLC submitted a price of $10.26 per linear foot (estimated, $10.26 x 1,222 L.F. = $12,537.72) to provide the labor and materials to repair the cracks in the tennis courts.
WHEREAS Project Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., has reviewed the cost provided by Precision Concrete and Construction LLC and recommends that the City of Haleyville award this work to Precision Concrete and Construction LLC for their labor and materials price of $10.26/L.F. ($12,537.00) to complete this work.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, that Mayor Ken Sunseri is hereby authorized to award this work to Precision Concrete and Construction LLC for their labor and materials price of $10.26/L.F. ($12,537.72) to complete this work.

WHEREAS bids for the replacement of curb along Pine Avenue in the Hilltop Subdivision were accepted by email to the Project Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., until 12:00 p.m., local time, on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The following is a summary of the bids received:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, that Mayor Ken Sunseri is hereby authorized to execute the Notice of Award for this project and award the construction of Drainage Improvements of Curb Replacement on Pine Avenue in Hilltop Subdivision to Forester Contracting for their proposed price of $8,000.00.

WHEREAS the City of Haleyville will construct Drainage Improvements in Forest Park Subdivision along Lakeshore Drive at Lots 215, 231, and 247.
WHEREAS bids to replace the 6-inch curb and gutter with 24-inch curb and gutter in the Forest Park Subdivision along Lakeshore Drive at Lots 215, 231, and 247 were accepted by email to the Project Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., until 12:00 p.m., local time, on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The following is a summary of the bids received:

RESOLUTION #2025-20
WHEREAS heavy spring rains are causing erosion at the base of a light pole, at the inlet of the walking path, and are undermining the headwalls of the culvert crossing on 9th Avenue coming into the Haleyville Sports Complex. The erosion has been monitored by Park and Recreation staff during their ongoing maintenance duties.
WHEREAS City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., reviewed the erosion at the Haleyville Sports Complex with Bob Carden of Precision Concrete and Construction, who has previously completed work at the Sports Complex and is familiar with the overall facility.
WHEREAS Bob Carden of Precision Concrete and Construction gave City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., a verbal quote of $20,300.00 to repair all three areas of concern with concrete.
WHEREAS because of the urgency of the erosion problems, City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., discussed this repair and the cost with Mayor Ken Sunseri before verbally approving Precision Concrete and Construction to complete these repairs at a cost of $20,300.00.
WHEREAS upon completion of the work, Precision Concrete and Construction will submit an invoice to City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., for approval and processing to the City of Haleyville for payment.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville that it is agreed that, in the urgency of the situation, Mayor Ken Sunseri authorized this work and Precision Concrete and Construction will complete the concrete work necessary to stop the erosion in the areas described herein at the Haleyville Sport Complex with a fee not to exceed $20,300.00.
