The Haleyville City Council held their regular meeting at 5:30 pm on June 16 with all members present. The council approved two resolutions, one to accept bids for the city’s summer paving project and the other approving City Clerk Christy Harbin as the city’s election manager for the upcoming municipal election. The latter is necessary for Harbin to perform certain duties usually handled by the mayor, but Mayor Ken Sunseri is ineligible to do so since he is seeking re-election. These resolutions are included below.
Both resolutions passed unanimously.
Upon completion of the regular agenda, Mayor Ken Sunseri asked for comments from council members and the public. Councilman Brian Berry thanked everyone for attending the first event in the Haleyville Hometown Summer series in the Heart of Haleyville Park this past Saturday.
The next council meeting will be Monday, July 7 at 5:30 pm.
RESOLUTION #2025-21
WHEREAS the City of Haleyville is currently working on paving various streets in Haleyville, AND
WHEREAS the following streets are considered for the 2025 Summer Paving Project:
14th Avenue – SR195 to 25th Street
24th Street – 14th Avenue to 13th Avenue
24th Street – 13 Avenue to 12th Avenue
23rd Street – SR13 East to Single Lane
26th Street – SR13 East to 11th Avenue, Upper Portion
26th Street – SR13 East to 11th Avenue, Lower Portion Center
Walnut Avenue – 19th Street to 20th Street
29th Street – Off 9th Avenue, West of Sports Complex
Entrance Gate at City Shop
14th Avenue – 33rd Street to 35th Street
35th Street – Newburg Road to 13th Avenue
13th Avenue – 35th Street to Dead End
15th Avenue – 35th Street to Dead End
WHEREAS City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., has reviewed these streets and provided a preliminary cost estimate totaling $586,233.72 to complete this work.
WHEREAS City Engineer Calvin Cassady, P.E. recommends that the City of Haleyville take bids for the work required to resurface these streets.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, that City Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E., is hereby authorized to bid out the resurfacing of the above referenced streets and bring the bid results to the City Council for their review and approval.

RESOLUTION # 2025-22
WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City Council of the City of Haleyville, Alabama, that Mayor Ken Sunseri is a candidate in the up-coming election to be held August 26, 2025, with any run-off thereof to be held September 23, 2025, so as to be disqualified to perform the duties of Section 11-46-36 of the Code of Alabama, 1975.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Acting City Clerk Christy Harbin, who is found to be a disinterested person, is hereby designated and directed to perform the duties of the Mayor under and pursuant to said Section 11-46-36, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Acting City Clerk Christy Harbin shall conduct a school or schools of instruction for election officials who will conduct the 2025 Municipal/School Election and any run-off required, and provide such materials, as she shall deem helpful in their conduct.
