Test flights began yesterday in the ArcticShark drone project at the Haleyville Airport. A government contractor is using a drone to measure climatic data above the Bankhead National Forest.
The drone is quite large, having a wingspan of 22 feet and weighing 650 pounds, making it big enough to carry the instruments needed to collect the data. The flights above the forest will be conducted over the next several weeks.
