The Russellville Police Department reports an officer-involved shooting is under investigation, after police responded to a reported altercation at Mills Trailer Park Friday night.
According to the press release from the department, officers officers arrived on scene and saw a male suspect actively assaulting a male DoorDash delivery driver with a knife. One of the officers immediately intervened, placing himself between the suspect and the victim in an effort to stop the attack. The suspect then turned his attention toward the officer and attacked him with at least one knife, causing injuries.
In response to the immediate deadly threat, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect and ending the attack. The officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
In accordance with standard procedure, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is conducting an independent investigation into this officer-involved shooting. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
