The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2026 today, by a narrow margin of three votes. It was then sent to President Trump, who signed it into law. The $1.2 Trillion bill will not only avoid a government shutdown but also fund two local road projects.
Included in the funding bill is a $5 Million appropriation for funding feasibility studies to get the Highway 13 four-lane project back on track, which has been dormant for about 15 years. The project will continue the four-lane highway that currently ends at Spruce Pine, through Haleyville, Delmar, and Natural Bridge to connect with Interstate 22 at Eldridge.
In addition, funding totaling just over $1.5 Million will pay to resurface Winston County Road 57, to improve access to the Houston and Corinth Recreation Areas in Bankhead National Forest.
