The Winston County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest April 5th in connection with a theft in the Ashridge community. The crime happened earlier in the week according to the office, and investigators worked several leads that didn’t pan out.
Investigators found a vehicle shown in crime scene surveillance footage, but had been unable to locate the suspect until the theft victim received a tip on the suspect traveling to Morgan County.
Winston County Sheriff Caleb Snoddy contacted the Morgan County Sheriff’s office, and they were able to detain the suspect at a flea market in their jurisdiction. Sheriff Snoddy then arrested the suspect Austin Chase Vankeuren for Theft of Property 1st Degree. Vankeuren will also face charges in Morgan County, and in Cullman County for violating probation.
The Sheriff’s office said that thanks to the people of Winston County who assisted in the case with accurate information, they were able to recover all but one of the stolen items and make the arrest.
All suspects are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
