Here’s your Busy Bee Community Calendar for the 911 Festival this weekend!
92-7 The Bee Welcomes you to the 911 Festival in downtown Haleyville. There are two events going on today prior to the Festival Kickoff at 3pm:
The American Legion Auxiliary is hosting a yard sale at the Whitehead Post in Haleyville, and is having a grill-out fundraiser as well. Lunch is available 11am to 1pm today and tomorrow. Today’s special is a grilled hotdog or polish sausage plate with potato salad, baked beans and a drink for $8. Tomorrow will be grilled Angus beef hamburgers with the same sides for $10. All proceeds help the Legion Auxiliary’s veterans programs.
Our friends at Jolly Dan’s are hosting their grand opening today, at their new store on the four-lane, 2200 11th Avenue in Haleyville. They have door prizes, free treats, and live music coming up at 2pm. They have parking on the side of their new store that faces 20th Street, by Lawson Real Estate.
Downtown today, the 911 Festival gets underway with Arts and Crafts and food vendors set up on 20th Street or Main Street beginning at 3pm.
The kids zone will open at 5pm, while the first band of the night, Cowgirl Up Bluegrass, takes the stage at 5pm as well. The main stage is located behind the Haleyville Library.
At 6pm, First Responders will be honored with awards on the main stage, and at 6:30 music will resume with the Eagle Sunrise Band.
The Sweet Tea Trio will play at 8pm, followed by tonight’s headliner Parmalee at 9:30.
If you want to stay out a little later, South Layne will play an after party at the Heart of Haleyville Park at 11:15.
Tomorrow, there will be three great shows for motor enthusiasts, featuring cars, motorcycles, and tractors!
The 13th Annual Cox Farms 911 Fest Tractor Show will be at the parking lot by city hall under the hill. Registration is open from 7 to 8am, and the show will run until 11:30. The judges will then have half an hour to pick winners, which will be announced at Noon. Just a couple of the many awards will be for the Oldest Tractor, Mayor’s Choice, Best Classic Lawn Mower, and our personal favorite, the Johnny Cash “one piece at a time” Award. There’s a $10 registration fee per tractor, and proceeds will be donated to the Haleyville High School FFA.
The first annual Woody’s Memorial Bike Show will be on 21st street on the hill beside city hall. Registration is from 8 to 10am, and winners will be announced at noon. It’s hosted by the Iron Angels LE-MC of Winston County, and they want to invite you to ride out and maybe win a prize! Entry fee is $25 per bike.
The main stage will be gone tomorrow morning, and a classic car show will take place in the parking lot behind the library, hosted by the Automotive Department of the Haleyville Center of Technology. Registration will open at 8am and awards will be presented at 1pm.
And no festival would be complete without a parade. At 10am there will be a parade to honor first responders and Haleyville High School Alumni, this year giving a big salute to the Haleyville High Class of 1955.
Remember admission is free, so bring your lawn chairs and enjoy this year’s 9-1-1 Festival!
