The AL 243 bridge reopened to traffic on Wednesday, July 8th.
The bridge on Alabama Highway 243 is now open, having been closed for exactly one year and one day. ALDOT closed the highway in Franklin County on July 7, 2025, to replace the bridge over Cedar Creek south of Russellville. A popular route between Russellville, Haleyville, and Double Springs, many of our friends and neighbors are happy to see 243 open once again.
According to ALDOT, the declining condition of the bridge constructed in 1965 led them to plan its replacement, a $2.8 million project. Near Cedar Creek, Highway 243 carries about 3,000 vehicles per day.
